JV + Maika Engagement: El Matador Beach, California
In 2014, a mutual friend connected them via the virtual world. JV lived in the Philippines, and Maika resided in California. They had never met in person but the letters and words typed through Facebook Messenger ignited a palpable energy between them that grew instantly into a love that only they would be able to explain. They exhausted what seems like every available online social platform to become better acquainted until it was finally time for JV to meet Maika in person. Seven months after their initial online interaction, the two met in Glendale, CA, and just as they expected the magic was very very real.
Hours and seconds passed by all too quickly and JV returned back to his hometown. It was a solemn return and all JV could think about was Maika. It didn't take long before he realized what he had to do. JV surrendered all his logic and followed the currents of his heart. He packed his belongings and returned to California for good.
The two chose to have their engagement photos taken at El Matador in Malibu California. While the location was somewhat of an impromptu decision, I couldn't help but notice the irony. This Pacific Ocean that once served as a 7,328 mile barrier between these two lovers became the very same ocean that unified them. This is a love story that reminds us all to surrender to the currents that guide our hearts.
Maika and JV, thank you so much for choosing me to document and tell your story. I can't tell you how lucky I felt to have been surrounded by a love so pure, sacrificing, and relentless. I'm sure this is only a taste of what I will be lucky enough to witness on your wedding day. Congratulations and see you at your wedding :)
